For several decades, fresh produce has been available in Santa Barbara from the Santa Barbara Farmers Market and Tri-County Produce. Now, Isla Vista Food Coop (IVFC) is adding to the offerings, having moved into the city at the site of the former Cantwell’s Market, 1533 State St.

IVFC has been doing business in Isla Vista since 1973 and is the only community owned grocery store in the county. IVFC Downtown Market offers fresh produce, including organic and fair-trade selections from local producers.

“We have a strong and long relationship with local farmers representing the core of the offering at the farmers market.” said Joel Garcia, IVFC produce manager. “We provide them with a devoted space to display their products seven days a week, extending their opportunity to fulfill the needs of their customers.”

“This is an important investment our co-op is making to expand our footprint in the community, in alignment with our strategic priorities to provide affordable, fresh and healthy alternatives to its residents,” said Lisa Oglesby, president of IVFC. “We hope the neighbors will give us their preference and support.”

IVFC Downtown Market is open daily from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. with made-to-order deli offerings 7 a.m.-3 p.m.
