Jed Dy sits in front of the pack after the first day of competition on Saturday at the 2024 Santa Barbara City Golf Championships at Santa Barbara Golf Club.

The sophomore from George Washington University and native of the Philippines shot a three-under-par on the day to start the weekend on a high note.

Following Dy is a five-way tie for second place at two-under-par that includes two-time defending champion Leo Metzger and San Marcos High freshman Austin Downing.

Metzger and Downing are joined on the leaderboard by Drew Miller, Bobby Neary and Austin Duffy.

San Marcos High senior and future Oregon Duck Shams Jahangir-Arshad sits alone at one-under-par following the first day of play.

The annual Memorial Day tournament is a three-day, 54-hole event that features a cut after Sunday’s round.

Along with the city championship, which accounts for the gross scores of the golfers, the Santa Barbara Golf Club is hosting a Men’s Net City Championship with three different flights and a Women’s Net City Championship.

Tim Lowder holds the lead in the Palmer Flight at one-over-par, Cevin Doppman leads the Hogan Flight at one-over-par and Brian Milner and Stephen Green are tied at one-over-par ahead of the pack in the Nicklaus Flight.

In the Women’s Net City Championship, Sheri Dean leads the pack after the first day at one-under-par. Norah Dunbar is in second place after shooting two-over-par.
