It’s hard to fathom that later this year I will be facing my 30,000th day on this planet.
That’s quite a few 24-hour periods filled with diverse experiences.
Some were exhilarating, others were quite traumatic, yet most days were uneventful yet special in small, somewhat insignificant ways.
Overall, I’m glad to have experienced each day and realize that much wisdom has been gained in the process.
I doubt there are another 10,000 days ahead, but whatever God has planned I will cherish it all — faithfully facing the day at hand.
I’ve gradually come to realize that attempting to manipulate the day at hand is utterly futile. These days, I simply thank God for His wonderful daily provision.
My dear friend, Roy Doty, always started his prayers with “This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
I often turn to Genesis 6:3 as a reminder that I may still have quite a few days remaining to serve my Lord: “Then the Lord said, ‘My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years.’”
Now I’m not certain I’m prepared for anywhere near another 10,000-plus days, but if that’s God’s will for my life, so be it.
With blurred vision and other ailments, I doubt my best days lay ahead, but I may be wrong.
The Apostle Paul did his best work for the Lordd once he received a thorn in the flesh. That thorn may well have been physical issues with his sight.
As with Paul, I do have personal issues with pride and perhaps you, too, can relate in some fashion.
What I know for certain is this: God continues to mold me into the servant He wants me to be. That process has been going on for more than 15,000 days already, and I know He’s continuing to work on me daily.
We have no way of knowing how long we will be on this planet, but I do know this: God has a plan for all He has created and He loves all His creation.
You would be wise to ask Him to show Himself to you. Your future days can potentially be the most meaningful and significant ever, if you simply allow the Holy Spirit to come into your heart.
The final verses of Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 are worthy words to close this essay: “Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.”
Each day is a wonderful blessing in my life and I trust it will be in yours as well.
