As a teenager, I loved going to church and singing Christian songs from that old Lutheran hymnal.
Perhaps my favorite of all those hymns was “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.” That song had deeper roots in our American heritage than most know.
Written by abolitionist Julia Ward Howe during the Civil War, it stirred the hearts of those fighting for freedom for all mankind in America.
To me, the most significant words end the chorus. “His truth is marching on” certainly has deep meaning to this very day.
That’s what really matters — God’s Truth! We are faced with lies amid divisiveness every day, and the truth is a precious commodity that we must cherish and pass on in this devious and demonic age in which we live.
Let me share these words from Psalm 25:1-5, one of King David’s many psalms: “To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul; in you I trust O my God. Do not let me put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me. No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame, but they will be put to shame those who are treacherous without excuse. Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.”
Do you get the picture? We have all been created for His pleasure — not for ours. He has a purpose and a plan for each of us.
For those blessed to have been born in America as well as our many naturalized citizens, we have a wonderful obligation to carry on the heritage of our forefathers. Many have given their lives for the Red, White and Blue.
We must stand strong for our democratic republic: “One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
This American Experiment continues to attract the multitudes who are longing for a better life.
They come from the four corners of this planet for much more than prosperity. They come for freedom of religion and speech.
So many in this world are oppressed beyond our comprehension. They are slaves to this cruel world and long for the freedom available within our borders.
Sadly, many don’t seem to appreciate what has been so graciously given to us by our Heavenly Father.
May I simply suggest you at least reflect on all He has provided, give Him the glory and be thankful for His Truth.
And do remember …
“Glory, glory Halleluiah. His truth is marching on.”
