The unveiling of a new store is always an exciting event, but the grand opening of Emily Joubert at the Montecito Country Mart on Friday was nothing short of a celebration.
As the paper came off the windows of the shop at 1026-B Coast Village Road, it revealed a treasure trove of global delights that had locals and visitors alike buzzing with anticipation.
Emily Joubert, the brainchild of owner Judy Sieber, is not just a store; it’s a curated journey through the world’s most exquisite crafts, styles and designs.
The shop offers an eclectic mix of home décor, fashion, garden accessories, travel essentials, culinary arts, jewelry, gifts, and even babywear.
And the name?
“Emily Joubert is my tribute to my grandmother, who always believed in me,” Sieber told Noozhawk.
After launching her first Emily Joubert shop in Woodside in 2004, followed by a San Francisco location in 2021, Sieber brings a wealth of experience to Montecito.
With 40 years in merchandising and developing style for giants like Ralph Lauren and Esprit, Sieber has an eye for the extraordinary.
“I have always felt a kinship to the community and felt an Emily Joubert shop would be a great fit in Montecito,” said Sieber, who has deep family connections to the area.
Judging by the turnout on opening day, I would say she’s right.
What sets Emily Joubert apart is its exclusivity. Many items, from handcrafted furniture to Belgian linens and block-printed cotton blouses, are unique to the store.
Sieber’s passion for discovering artisans and creators worldwide is reflected in every corner of the shop.
“I especially like to collaborate with women-owned companies, traditional multigenerational craft-focused families with special heritage skills, along with emerging designers and artists,” she explained.
The grand opening was a feast for the senses, with libations and culinary delights provided by author and chef Pascale Beale.
Adding to the festive atmosphere was Portola Valley interior designer Lisa Staprans, who was signing her book, The Soul of Design.
Visitors were treated to a visual and tactile journey through rare Fragonard perfumes, Antoinette Poisson textiles, Anna Lari lighting, and Alix D. Reynis ceramics and jewels, to name just a few of those I was drooling over.
A highlight of Emily Joubert’s offerings is the copyrighted exclusive Scottish Tartan collection, featuring items that symbolize history, countryside traditions and family. From pillows to passport covers, these pieces promise to be conversation starters.
As Sieber puts it, “Emily Joubert’s goal is to enhance the world with everyday beauty!”
I dare you to visit and leave empty handed!
