Juneteenth Santa Barbara returns for its ninth annual celebration, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, June 19, at Plaza Del Mar. The event is free to attend.

This year’s theme is Love for The People, “because we all deserve some extra love these days,” organizers said.

Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans in the United States learned of their freedom and remains a celebration of Black history, culture, resilience and community.

The day will feature live performances from local musicians, poets and artists, along with the return of the Black Artisan Market, showcasing creations such as as handmade goods and art.

Visitors will also find community resources and opportunities to learn more about the history and ongoing significance of Juneteenth.

The family-friendly event invites attendees to bring chairs, blankets and plan to stay awhile.

There’s still time to get involved in Juneteenth Santa Barbara 2026 and organizers are seeking volunteers and community sponsors.

Volunteers must be 16 or older, able to be active for extended periods, attend a volunteer orientation, and be available on Friday, June 19. Sign up to volunteer here by Friday, May 22.

Businesses, organizations and individuals can support Juneteenth Santa Barbara and invest in community, culture and equity. While the deadline for recognition in printed event materials has passed, there is time to support the celebration and receive digital recognition.
