To give parents the tools to help make informed decisions about Summer Camps for their kids in Santa Barbara, Noozhawk has conducted a series of interviews with representatives of local programs for this year’s Summer Camp Guide.
In this interview, Noozhawk spoke with Zachary Moore, Director of Summer Programs at Laguna Blanca School, to learn more about the summer programs they are offering this year.

Question: What is the name of your camp or program?
Answer: Summer @ Laguna.
Q: What is the focus of your camp or program?
A: Summer 2022 features eight weeks of Laguna’s favorite summer camps, such as Arts @ Laguna and Laguna LEGO Masters—plus a whole host of new offerings, which come in all different shapes and sizes to satisfy a wide range of ages (from 4 to 17!) and interests.

The majority of our camps take place on Laguna Blanca’s Hope Ranch campus, with 35 acres of fresh air and green space for campers to run, explore, learn, and grow.
Our hallmark Lower School camp, Camp Cito, along with our new Laguna Explorer series is housed on our charming 2-acre Montecito campus. Laguna faculty and other talented local educators serve as our camp staff, along with a dedicated and caring team of counselors and CITs.
At Summer @ Laguna, we pride ourselves on taking excellent care of our campers. In addition to all the activities and adventures of the day, every camp includes daily healthy snacks and lunch, as well as integrated physical education. Campers come home happy, tired, well-fed, and eager for the next day of camp!
Q: How many years has the camp been running?
A: Summer @ Laguna has expanded rapidly over the last few years, but many of our hallmark camps, like Arts @ Laguna, have been operating for over 20 years.
Q: What protocols does your camp have in place due to COVID-19?
A: Summer @ Laguna camps run in accordance with CDC and SB County COVID safety protocols. Laguna Blanca successfully and safely ran summer camps in 2020 and 2021 and will continue to prioritize the health and well-being of our campers and staff.
Q: What goals do you have for kids participating in your camp or program?
A: We want our campers to feel known and supported by our Summer @ Laguna team. We strive to make every day exciting and engaging while prioritizing the safety and well-being of our campers.
Q: Describe a typical day for a child attending your camp or program.
A: Our camps run from 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM DAILY and include snacks, lunch, and integrated PE. Summer @ Laguna provides complimentary early drop-off along with robust aftercare options, including our new Sports & Fitness afternoon options.
Q: What is the staff to child ratio? Do you require training or background checks for your employees?
A: Summer @ Laguna has a minimum staff to camper ratio of 18 campers to 3 staff (1 lead teacher, 1 counselor, and 1 junior counselor).

Our staff is comprised of Laguna faculty, other talented local educators, along with a dedicated and caring team of counselors and CITs.
Q: What is the best part, in your opinion, about your camp or program?
A: There is something for everyone and parents can map out a stress-free summer path for their children that includes lunch, snacks, and morning and afternoon care.
Q: In what ways is your camp or program educational?
A: Summer @ Laguna is at its core, a robust learning environment. Campers delve into a wide range of exciting project-based learning opportunities that focus on meaningful interdisciplinary connections.
Q: What is the age and price range of your camp? Do you offer any scholarships?
A: The majority of camps cost $375 per week and cover snacks and lunch. Campers can range in age from early kindergarten all the way up to seniors in high school, depending on the camp. We offer a wide range of need-based scholarships. The application can be found on our homepage.
