Golden Globe winner singer/songwriter (“The Rose”) Amanda McBroom will perform in Let’s Fall in Love, a benefit concert of original and cherished standards, 3 p.m. Sunday, March 30 at the Marjorie Luke Theatre, 721 E. Cota St., Santa Barbara.
Benefitting the Center for Successful Aging, the concert is produced by Santa Barbara producer and actor Rod Lathim.
The Center for Successful Aging is a nonprofit dedicated to nurturing the well-being of seniors in the local community through peer-to-peer counseling, support groups, and daily Careline calls to seniors to check on their safety and well-being.
The New York Times has called McBroom “One of the greatest cabaret performers of her generation who writes like an angel and has a voice to match.”
In the March 30 program, she will sing some of her favorite original songs, as well as popular standards by such composers as Cole Porter and the Gershwins.
Lathim said he has been a long-time fan of McBroom’s skill as a lyricist and storyteller through songs.
He brought the concept for the concert to the Center for Successful Aging as an addition to the many musical benefit events he has produced at The Luke Theatre for the center over the last decade.
McBroom’s artistry appeals to a broad audience, Lathim said. Her popular song “The Rose,” recorded by Bette Midler, hit No. 1 on the charts.
McBroom’s songs have also been recorded by such stars as Barbara Cook, Manhatten Transfer, Anne Murray, Judy Collins, Barry Manilow, and Reba McIntyre.
Most recently, with her writing partner Michele Brourman, McBroom wrote songs for the award-winning documentary film “Show Her the Money;” and the HBO film “The Great Lillian Hall,” starring Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates.
Pianist Brourman and bassist Larry Tuttle will perform with McBroom on March 30.
Tickets for Let’s Fall In Love are available in advance at csasb.org/mcbroom or at the door. Reserved VIP seating is $45; general admission, $28.50.
The Luke Theatre offers an Assistive Listening Loop system for audience members and is wheelchair accessible.
The concert is supported by Rod Lathim, Anne Towbes, Lashon Kelley and the Dreier Family Rent Subsidy Fund at The Luke Theatre
