Youth up to age 18 are invited to participate in the Lompoc Public Library’s Book Character Pumpkin Contest.

Real or fake pumpkins or gourds will be accepted for the contest, and the pumpkin decoration should be inspired by a character from a book.

Pumpkins may be painted and small, non-food accessories may be pasted or glued on. Real pumpkins should not be carved or otherwise punctured.

Decorated pumpkins must be returned to the Lompoc Library by Wednesday, Oct. 23; one submission per library patron.

The winner, who will be announced on Nov. 1, will receive a certificate of achievement and a prize.

Library patrons can vote in-person at the library for their favorite pumpkins Oct. 24 through Halloween, Oct. 31.
