The Lompoc Public Library is joining libraries across the nation in encouraging community members to sign up for library cards.

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, a time when the American Library Association and libraries nationwide come together to remind parents, caregivers and students that signing up for a library card is the first step toward academic achievement and lifelong learning.

Anyone with a free library card can enjoy the benefits of fun and educational programming, technology and media resources, and use of the library’s collection of books, DVDs, mobile hotspots, Oculus, and State Park passes.

Library cards can be obtained at either the Lompoc Public Library or the Village Library branch.

Those seeking library cards will need to provide a photo ID and proof of address. Individuals under age 18 will need a parent or guardian present to apply.

Another option is a digital library card, which can be used to listen to audiobooks and music through the Libby or Hoopla app. To apply for a digital library card, visit https://lom.blackgold.org/MyAccount/eCARD.

A physical library card is necessary to check out books and other physical materials from the libraries.
