The Lompoc Aquatic Center has unveiled its updated Swim Lesson Program, designed to provide a more effective, age-appropriate and skill-focused learning experience for swimmers of all levels.

The fresh structure replaces the former level system with a clearly defined pathway that helps swimmers and families better understand where to begin and how to progress.

The new curriculum focuses on swimmer readiness and ability, rather than age alone, according to the city. By emphasizing core competencies at each stage, the Lompoc Aquatic Center aims to ensure swimmers build strong, lasting aquatic skills in a supportive environment.

Highlights of the New Swim Lesson Structure:
For ages six months to four years:
• Preschool 1: Formerly Parent and Child 1 (ages six months-two years)
• Preschool 2: Formerly Parent and Child 2 or Level 1 (ages three-four years)
• Tiny Tots – Preschool 2: Designed for those transitioning between beginner and intermediate skills

For ages four and up:
• Stage 1: Jellyfish – Builds fundamental water comfort and gliding on front/back.
• Stage 2: Seahorse – Develops front crawl, back crawl, and elementary backstroke.
• Stage 3: Sea Turtle – Focuses on endurance and stroke coordination over 25 yards.
• Stage 4: Otter – Introduces diving, treading, and 50-yard swims across four strokes.
• Stage 5: Dolphin – Mastery level, emphasizing stroke competency and technique refinement.

New Courses for Older Beginners:
Understanding that some new swimmers begin later and may be uncomfortable in classes with younger children, the Aquatic Center now offers tailored options:
• Stingrays Pre-Teen 1: For beginners ages 8-12, especially those who have completed Stage 1 or 2
• Piranhas Pre-Teen 2: For pre-teens with basic stroke coordination ready to build endurance and proficiency

These classes ensure older beginners feel confident and supported as they develop essential swimming skills alongside their peers.

Enrollment is now open for the new Swim Lesson Program. To determine appropriate placement, visit the Lompoc Aquatic Center, 207 W. College Ave., or view the Equivalent Courses for New Aquatic Levels guide online or onsite.

The new format is designed to offer more flexibility and a smoother transition through each phase of aquatic learning.
