[Noozhawk’s note: TEDxSantaBarbara makes its debut Aug. 20 at The New Vic Theater in downtown Santa Barbara. As part of the advance publicity, Noozhawk will be republishing Mark Sylvester’s e-letters.]

We are reaching out to the local TEDx community looking for Ideas Worth Spreading. If you think you are ready for the TEDx stage, you can submit a two-minute video explaining your Idea Worth Spreading.

If there’s someone you know who should be considered, forward this article and urge them to submit their idea.

What Are We Looking For?

Chris Anderson, the curator of TED, recently suggested a few tips that make a great talk:

» Limit your talk to just one major idea.

» Give your listeners a reason to care.

» Build your idea, piece by piece, out of concepts that your audience already understands.

» Here’s the final tip: Make your idea worth sharing. By that I mean, ask yourself the question: “Who does this idea benefit?”

If you are serious about being on the stage, you may also want to get his new book, TED Talks: The Official TED Guide to Public Speaking, which came out earlier this month.

Click here to submit your idea on video to the TEDxSantaBarbara team.

Submissions are open until midnight May 31 so you don’t have a lot of time. Our theme this year is What If. This theme offers unlimited possibilities.

“The X Takes a Walk”

We recently took our bright shiny new X out for a walk. We asked 30 random people we met to say, “TEDx!” and then recorded them for one second.

We used a cool app called 1 Second Everyday, which is itself the product of a TED Talk by our friend, Cesar Kuriyama, to assemble this 30-second video.

How You Can Help Today

Local partners are the principle funders of this event. We’re seeking to build relationships with a few select organizations and individuals who want to support TEDxSantaBarbara. We will produce an experience for our attendees that sets a tone for creativity, conversation and connections.

Do you or someone you know want to support TEDxSantaBarbara? If so, fantastic! Let’s talk so we can explain how your support makes dreams come true.

Click here to view our Partner Pak or click here to drop us a note. We’ll be in touch.

We are thrilled to introduce you to Noozhawk our media partner since 2010. Noozhawk has been with us since the beginning and is now reposting our e-letter. We appreciate their generosity and ongoing assistance in spreading our message.

Thanks for your support and enthusiasm.
