Visit Santa Barbara, the official destination marketing organization for the Santa Barbara South Coast region, on Feb. 16 presented hotel performance data for January 2024.
The Santa Barbara South Coast hotel occupancy increased 11% in January 2024, compared to January 2023, according to the report. Hotel occupancy was 58% in January 2024.
The average rate for a Santa Barbara South Coast hotel room in January 2024 was $247 a night, down 1% from the same month last year. Revenue per available hotel room was $142 in January 2024, increasing 9% compared to the same month last year.
“Last month was expected to be a bright spot for the hospitality industry due to strong bookings for meetings and conferences,” said Kathy Janega-Dykes, president/CEO of Visit Santa Barbara. “Thankfully, this success was compounded by an impressive weekend before Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
“Although rates declined for the 19th consecutive month, January 2024 hotel revenue, and transient occupancy tax, set new records.”
The data referenced is generated by STR, an independent hospitality data analytics company. It includes hotels in Santa Barbara, Goleta, Montecito, Summerland and unincorporated Santa Barbara County (between Gaviota and Summerland).
Visit Santa Barbara recently debuted a new lodging promotion, offering 30% discounts for local residents from Goleta to Carpinteria who book overnight trips to the Santa Barbara South Coast in the shoulder season. The deals apply to stays through early 2024 at more than 20 South Coast properties.
