Jazz at the Lobero will present Michael Feinstein – Because of You: My Tribute to Tony Bennett, featuring the Carnegie Hall Ensemble, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 22.
Recording artist and star Broadway performer, Feinstein’s career has earned him five Grammy Award nominations, a special Tony Award for Excellence in Theatre, two Emmy nominations, and acclaim for his NPR series.
Feinstein’s interpretation of Bennett’s timeless repertoire pays homage to an era of classic songwriting, as well as preserves the rich cultural heritage that these songs represent. Feinstein’s debut show was sold out at New York’s Carnegie Hall.
“Feinstein’s close friendship with Tony Bennett – who he calls ‘one of the most enduring icons of the twentieth century’ – adds a profound layer to this tribute, as their shared camaraderie brings depth to each note performed,” Jazz at the Lobero said.
Bennett made his debut at Carnegie Hall in 1961 on a benefit performance for Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Southern Christian Leadership Conference, part of an all-star line-up that included Frank Sinatra, and the Rat Pack.
Bennett first headlined at Carnegie Hall in 1962 and went on to perform on its illustrious stage more than 20 times. His final appearance was in 2011, when performed in a duet with singer-songwriter James Taylor.
