An evacuation warning was issued Tuesday afternoon for a vegetation fire burning in the Cuyama Valley.
Detailed mapping late Tuesday night put the fire southwest of the intersection of highways 166 and 33 at some 1,383 acres and 10% contained, according to Capt. Scott Safechuck of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
The evacuation warning, which remained in effect late Tuesday night, was issued for areas south of Foothill Road between Castro Canyon and Santa Barbara Canyon.
The flames were moving to the south toward Los Padres National Forest, Safechuck said.
The blaze was reported at about 12:10 p.m. southeast of Kirschenmenn Road and Foothill Road.
The initial size-up of what was dubbed the Hill Fire was 75 acres, with a moderate rate of spread.
A fleet of aircraft — fixed wing and helicopters — was called in to help battle the fire. They were released from the incident Tuesday night.

Crews from the U.S. Forest Service also were dispatched to the fire.
Initially, firefighters at the scene estimated the blaze had the potential to grow to 200 acres, but it quickly surpassed that.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
Firefighters were expected to remain on scene overnight.
Tuesday’s fire came a day after firefighters were kept busy with a pair of blazes near Cuyama, including one that burned 37 acres.
