The motorcyclist killed in a crash on Highway 101 in Goleta on Monday has been identified as a 22-year-old Isla Vista man, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Bureau.

The victim was Dylan Monson, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Raquel Zick.

UC Santa Barbara spokesperson Kiki Reyes confirmed Monson was enrolled at UCSB.

Emergency crews responded to the northbound freeway, just past the Storke Road offramp, at around 4:18 p.m. for a report of a collision involving a 2015 BMW motorcycle.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said on Tuesday that that Monson was splitting lanes and traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the collision.

“A crash involved a motorcycle and two vehicles before crashing into a guardrail,” CHP Officer Jonathan Gutierrez said. “The rider was fully ejected from the motorcycle and collided into a guardrail along the right shoulder.”

Monson was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Gutierrez said it was not known as of Tuesday morning whether alcohol or drugs were involved in the collision, which remained under investigation.
