Noah Cortez, a member of Troop 87 in Orcutt, has completed his Eagle Scout service project at Patterson Road Elementary School, leaving a lasting impact on the school’s kindergarten playground.

Cortez’s project focused on revitalizing a well-loved but aging playground structure designed to resemble a fire truck, along with enhancing a tricycle roadway painted on the adjacent patio.

Over four days he organized and led a team of 15 volunteers to restore and improve these key play areas for young students.

The project involved extensive refurbishment work, including removing rust and old paint from the metal fire truck structure, repairing worn and damaged wooden components, and refinishing surfaces to ensure safety and durability.

Volunteers carefully sanded and varnished the wood elements while repainting the metal portions, bringing new life to the structure. The team refreshed and enhanced the painted tricycle road, creating a more engaging and visually appealing space for children.

“This project was about creating a safe, fun, and welcoming environment for the youngest students at Patterson Road Elementary,” said Cortez. “I’m grateful to everyone who volunteered their time and effort to help make this vision a reality.”

Eagle Scout projects are designed to demonstrate leadership, planning, and commitment to community service. Cortez’s effort improved the physical environment of the school and provided a meaningful example of youth leadership in action.

“Noah’s project stands as a testament to the positive impact Scouts can have within their communities,” Scout leaders said.

Troop 87, which meets at 6 p.m. Wednesdays at Saint Andrew’s Church, is committed to continue to develop young leaders through service, outdoor adventure, and community engagement.
