Pacific Pride Foundation (PPF) will host its annual Pacific Pride Festival Saturday, Aug. 24, at Santa Barbara’s Chase Palm Park. The theme this year is Stand with Stonewall.
The free, community event is a staple in the Santa Barbara area, attracting more than 4,000 lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ+) and ally supporters and their families from the Central and South coasts.
This year, PPF hopes to have more artist and community participation in planning the event, and is hosting a free call for artists to create the 2019 Pacific Pride Festival poster.
The winning artwork will be featured on the event poster, and the artist will receive wide exposure for his or her work, and a prize.
“We are always looking for new ways to involve our community in creating Pride with us,” said Colette Schabram, executive director of Pacific Pride Foundation.
“We have such a creative and inspiring local art scene, and we wanted to provide an opportunity to showcase art as action,” she said. “We hope that this contest becomes an added tradition to the Pacific Pride Festival.”
Artists must submit a 8.5-inch-wide-by-8-inch-high original artwork and design in .PDF, .AI, .PSD, or .INDD format by the June 1 submission deadline. Only digital files will be accepted.
Posters will be on 8.5-by-11-inch-paper, where 3 inches will be used for event logo and sponsors. Artists can send their submissions by email to jackie@pacificpridefoundation.org.
Finalists will be selected by the Pacific Pride planning committee and the top three designs will be posted tp Pacific Pride Foundation’s Instagram for the community to select their choice for the 2019 Pacific Pride Festival Poster.
