Three tenants — Bungalow 723, Ace of Fadez Barbershop and Te Amo Jewelers — have opened their doors this spring at Paseo Nuevo.
Ace of Fadez Barbershop and Bungalow 723 are new to the mall. Te Amo Jewelers has relocated within Paseo Nuevo.
Ace of Fadez Barbershop and Te Amo Jewelers are both family owned businesses with generational roots in Santa Barbara County.
Bungalow 723 is a woman-owned company, whose proprietor Brook Hansen was born and raised in Santa Barbara.
Hansen has been running her own personal care-products company since 2005. Her business has evolved over the years, and after eight months of pop-up shops she decided to move into Paseo Nuevo.
“I love seeing locals taking a leap of faith to open up a local business, just like I did,” said Hansen. “I saw when Paseo was first built, and now they are really taking pride in making State Street look good with the recent renovations.
“It’s been a positive experience watching it unfold.”
Ignacio Guerrero, owner of Ace of Fadez, is a third-generation barber who has worked in the community for nearly 30 years. He was born and brought up in the Santa Maria Valley, and both of his parents were barbers since 1964.
Guerrero’s new barbershop in Paseo Nuevo marks his own journey to build something for himself and his future generation. “He wants something to pass on and to be his legacy,” said his wife Tiffany Guerrero.
Te Amo Jewelers has a long-standing relationship with Paseo Nuevo, and currently has a location within the center, but is now moving to a new location near Gap and Pacsun.
The business is spearheaded by owner Everardo Cardenas, with help from his brother Alejandro Cardenas. They specialize in manufacturing in-house custom jewelry, and repairs.
The Cardenas brothers were born and raised in Santa Barbara and are branching out on their own as second-generation jewelers, after learning the craft from their father.
“We grew up inside a jewelry store, we watched and learned how to talk to customers,” said Everardo. “Our store is the opportunity to expand on what our father started.”
