A man died two weeks after he was critically injured when he was struck by a minivan while walking on Highway 246 in Lompoc, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Bradley Blackwell, 47, of Lompoc, was attempting to cross Highway 246 near Sweeney Road from the northbound side at about 8 p.m. Oct. 7 when he walked directly into the path of a Toyota Sienna, according to the CHP.
The impact of the collision propelled Blackwell over the guard rail, and he suffered major injuries.
He was flown by helicopter to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria.
CHP Officer Michael Griffith said they were notified Oct. 20 that Blackwell had died.
The minivan’s driver — Kathleen Hacker, 73, of Lompoc — was not hurt, the CHP said, adding that drugs or alcohol are not believed to have been a factor in the collision.
This was one of two fatal incidents involving pedestrians in Lompoc this month.
Antonio Ramos, 42, of Lompoc was killed last weekend when he was struck in the Home Depot parking lot. That driver fled the scene, Lompoc police said.
