Duo Mundi George & Guli will present Latin Fire: Exotic Dance Music for Four Hands, One Piano, 7:30 p.m. Sunday, May 19 at the Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara.

George Lopez and Gulimina Mahamuti explore music for one piano, four hands in the standard and contemporary repertoire, as well as commissioning new works by national and international composers.

Pianist/conductor Lopez, the Robert Beckwith Artist-in-Residence at Bowdoin College, has been a performer and engaging lecturer for some 30 years. Acclaimed Chinese-American pianist Mahamuti is the first Uyghur from China to receive a doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from the U.S.

In their current concert season, the duo has performance tours in China, at international music festivals, as well as national artist residencies at various institutions in the U.S.

Their upcoming recording projects include Music of the Americas, Latin Fire: Dance Music for Duo Piano, music written for and/or inspired by children, and a series of newly commissioned works for two pianos and one piano, four hands.
