Police have arrested two suspects in the Santa Barbara City College stabbing that injured a male student last week.

A Santa Barbara man and a juvenile were taken into custody Monday night in connection with the stabbing after being detained in Ventura that afternoon for allegedly ramming a police vehicle with a stolen vehicle and leading officers on a pursuit that ended at a high school, according to Assistant Police Chief Marylinda Arroyo.

Bryan Isaac Ramirez, 18, was booked at the Ventura County Jail on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy, Arroyo said.

The juvenile was booked into the Santa Barbara County Juvenile Justice Center on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy, Arroyo said.

The student was stabbed at the campus’ earth and biological sciences building Feb. 18 and transported to the hospital with lacerations to his upper body, according to police and college officials.

Police officers spent several hours searching the campus and surrounding area for the stabbing suspects, but no arrests were made at the time.

The stabbing reportedly occurred after an altercation, and two men approached the victim with a knife, police said.

Commander Chris Payne said the injuries appeared to be non-life-threatening and the victim was in stable condition when officers left the hospital.

SBCC spokesman Jordan Killebrew confirmed that the victim is a student at the college.

SBCC canceled classes for the evening the day of the attack, and made campus security personnel available to escort people to their vehicles and off campus.

Investigators said the stabbing “appears to be an isolated matter” and have not yet determined whether the assault was gang-related.

“There is nothing to indicate that this incident is related” to the Friday morning fatal shooting in Bohnett Park, police said.

Ramirez remained in Ventura County Jail custody as of Tuesday afternoon.

Ventura Allegations

The Ventura Police Department arrested Ramirez and the juvenile from Goleta Monday after they allegedly were involved in ramming a patrol vehicle with a stolen car and leading police on a pursuit that ended at a high school.

Officers located a stolen vehicle parked on East Main Street and responding detectives saw two males enter it and drive away, Ventura Police Sgt. Fabian Gutierrez said in a news release.

“When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver rammed a marked patrol vehicle occupied by two officers and fled, leading officers on a pursuit through a residential neighborhood near Midtown Ventura. The suspect vehicle later collided with a parked vehicle near Ventura High School,” police said.

Both people in the vehicle fled on foot onto the campus, and the high school was locked down as officers searched for them, Ventura Police said.

Officers found them on the campus and took them into custody, according to police.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Ramirez was booked into jail on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, felony evading, unlawful taking of a vehicle and felony child endangerment, Ventura police said.

The 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of a concealed dirk or dagger, felony possession of a weapon on school grounds, felony child endangerment, and resisting arrest, police said.

Santa Barbara police said Ramirez had a $250,000 bail enhancement added after the arrest related to the stabbing.
