The investigation into the death of a woman found on Santa Barbara’s East Beach around 5 p.m. on March 9 is ongoing, the Santa Barbara Police Department confirmed Tuesday.

The department is also looking for any information about the woman, identified as 46-year-old Vesna Prepolec.

Her cause of death was undetermined as of Wednesday, Cmdr. Charles Katsapis confirmed.

“Because of this, our investigators are seeking information and leads to assist in making that determination,” Katsapis said.

Prepolec has lived in Santa Barbara County for the past five years, according to an obituary posted by family members in Michigan, where she grew up.

Posts made to multiple social media accounts associated with Prepolec indicated she was homeless and had spent time in Santa Maria and Lompoc.

The Santa Barbara County Coroner’s Bureau investigation into her death was still ongoing, a spokesperson confirmed Wednesday.

Community members with information about Prepolec are asked to call Detective Baca at 805.897.2346.

Prepolec was a Lahser High School graduate with a degree in business management from Oakland University in Michigan, according to her obituary. Before coming to Santa Barbara, she worked for 15 years, largely in the automotive industry, as a marketing analyst.

She is survived by her mother, sister and extended family in the United States and in Croatia. She was preceded in death by her father.

A memorial gathering is scheduled for June 26 in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
