The Horse Project Santa Barbara has opened applications to Better with Horses for Woman Veterans who have served in the U.S. military.

The 10-week program, which begins in March, is an initiative to empower women veterans to thrive and support their own physical, mental and emotional well-being, while improving the health and welfare of rescued horses. It is not necessary to have experience with horses.

The program works in collaboration with the Barbara Giordano Foundation and the Paralyzed Veterans of America, California Chapter.

Interested women veterans can apply and learn more at thehorseprojectsantabarbara.com. Eight women will be selected, four in wheelchairs, by the collaborating organizations.

Deadline to submit an application is Feb. 1.
