The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department reported 663 positive novel coronavirus cases since Friday, and the COVID-19-related death of a Goleta resident older than 70.
The fatality was associated with an outbreak at a congregate-care site, according to the county.
The county has reported the COVID-19-related deaths of 689 people since the pandemic started. A state database lists the number at 693, likely due to delays in reporting.
As of Tuesday, there were 27 COVID-19-positive hospital patients countywide, including five intensive care unit patients and three people on ventilators.
Public Health reported 257 new local cases on Saturday, 153 cases on Sunday, 162 cases on Monday and 91 cases on Tuesday.
South Coast communities continue to report the highest rates of new cases based on population.
Isla Vista’s case rate is currently above 100 daily cases per 100,000 residents, according to Public Health.
There were 1,163 active cases as of Tuesday, which is the number of people who recently tested positive for the virus with a PCR test and are still considered infectious.
Of those people, 248 live in Santa Barbara; 188 live in Santa Maria; 176 live in Isla Vista; 137 live in Lompoc; 103 live in Goleta; 89 live in the Goleta Valley and Gaviota area; 66 live in Orcutt; 56 live in the Santa Ynez Valley; 35 live in Carpinteria and South County unincorporated areas; and 22 live in North County unincorporated areas.
