Sanctuary Centers, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to addressing mental illness and promoting community well-being, will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its new state-of-the-art, five-story facility, 3-6 p.m. Dec. 14 in downtown Santa Barbara.
The event will kick off the construction of a transformative building designed to enhance access to mental health support and foster positive change in the community.
Attendees, including local leaders, philanthropists and supporters, will witness the symbolic start of an initiative aimed at fostering affordable housing and comprehensive healthcare services.
“We are thrilled to embark on this journey toward building a healthier and more connected community,” said Barry R. Schoer, president/CEO at Sanctuary Centers. “Our groundbreaking ceremony symbolizes the beginning of a project that will provide essential services and create a supportive environment for individuals to thrive.”
Sanctuary Centers believes that integrating affordable housing and comprehensive healthcare services within a community space is a leading-edge approach to addressing the layered and complex challenges individuals face.
Highlights of the new facility include:
Affordable Housing: The building will feature 34 units of affordable housing, addressing a critical need for housing in our community. Sanctuary Centers is committed to providing stable and secure housing options for individuals and families with mental illness.
Comprehensive Healthcare Services: The facility will house medical, dental, and behavioral health clinics, incorporating a holistic approach to healthcare. This integration aims to address both physical and mental health needs, promoting overall well-being for local residents.
Community Spaces: Designed with a focus on residential and client engagement, the building will offer dedicated spaces for shared dining experiences, communal activities, events, and programs. The spaces will serve as hubs for social interaction, support networks, and educational initiatives.
