Sansum Clinic was honored with two awards for top performance in clinical quality, patient experience and cost measures for 2020 by the Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA), a 200-member organization designed to overcome barriers to high-value care.

As part of IHA’s Align. Measure. Perform. (AMP) Commercial HMO Program, Sansum Clinic was one of eight provider organizations to receive the Ronald P. Bangasser Memorial Award for Quality Improvement for demonstrating the greatest improvement in preventive care and chronic disease management metrics in the Central Coast Region.

Sansum Clinic was also honored for Top 10% Performance in Patient Experience, acknowledging the organization’s achievement in the 90th percentile or above for commercial HMO members. Sansum Clinic scored in this category alongside other large integrated health systems like Cedars-Sinai, Sutter Health, Scripps Health and UCLA Health.

“Achieving this recognition, especially during the past pandemic year, is a testament to the dedication and professionalism of our team of healthcare providers and staff,” said Dr. Marjorie Newman, Sansum Clinic medical director.

This past measurement year, IHA worked to select measures that were likely to drive the best outcomes for vulnerable populations during the pandemic, while still tracking overall performance. The narrower measure set accounted for challenges the healthcare delivery system faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and included updated telehealth guidance.

To ensure safe access to care, Sansum Clinic provided a telehealth program to patients within weeks of the start of pandemic in spring 2020. IHA is a 501c6 business league funded by the healthcare industry.
