The Santa Barbara Gay Men’s Chorus will present its spring concert, Fight & Flight, 7 p.m. Monday, May 12 at the Lobero Theatre, 33 E Canon Perdido St., Santa Barbara.

Fight & Flight is an eclectic concert that explores both sides of the classic human trauma responses to adversity: Fight and Flight, the Santa Barbara Gay Men’s Chorus explained.

“Through powerful choral arrangements and storytelling, the concert reflects on the courage it takes to fight for what’s right — and the strength it takes to seek safety, freedom, and peace. It’s about the moments when we rise up — and the moments when we rise above,” the chorus said.

Under the direction of artistic director Timothy Accurso, the chorus’ program includes hits from numerous genres featuring the chorus of 30 community members, and a live band.

Among the program’s selections are Queen’s “We are the Champions,” Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song,” Bette Middler’s “The Wind beneath my Wings,” Sinatra’s classic “Fly me to the Moon,” and “Defying Gravity” from “Wicked.”

“In our unique style of concert, we feature great music, fun choreography, and meaningful testimonies and stories from our members,” the Santa Barbara Gay Men’s Chorus said. “This performance continues the chorus’ mission to build community and promote inclusivity through the power of music.”

“I wanted to go with a program that shows strength and hope in these days when everything seems so chaotic,” said Accurso. “We’ve been so thankful for our community’s support, and I hope this concert will re-energize you and lift you up.”
