The Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department, in partnership with P.L.A.Y. Inc., is seeking skilled and dedicated instructors to help expand the variety of recreation classes available to Santa Maria City residents.
The initiative aims to meet the increasing demand for diverse recreational opportunities for all age groups, from children to seniors, the city said.
Instructors will work as independent partners with the city. They will have the flexibility to develop their own class curriculum, establish schedules, and lead one or more sessions each month, which will be coordinated with the city during each Recreation Guide planning cycle.
Classes will be held at community and recreation centers, with locations and times determined based on both facility and instructor availability.
Depending on the nature of the agreement, instructors can provide fee-based classes or partner with the city to offer free community programs.
For those who partner with the city, facility fees may be waived in exchange for delivering free classes to city residents.
Courses may be tailored for children, adults, or family groups, depending on the instructor’s expertise and the course’s focus.
The program is designed so that class fees cover overall costs.
For partnerships involving free community classes, the city supports instructors by providing the necessary space at no cost.
Based on community requests, currently, there is a significant demand for instructors to teach youth dance, adult cooking, and senior exercise classes.
Proposals for additional class topics are encouraged, and innovative ideas are welcome to further enrich the community’s recreational offerings, the city said.
