In honor of America Recycles Day and to promote household recycling, the Santa Maria Utilities Department will hold a free Recycle Bin Distribution event, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16.
The event will feature no-contact pickup of the bins at the Recycling Park at Santa Maria Regional Landfill, 2065 E. Main St.
To ensure safe traffic flow on-site, access to the distribution booth will only be possible after entering the landfill site via the Scalehouse.
Residents are urged to take advantage of the Recycling Park, open seven days a week, to drop off recyclable materials, old electronic waste, and household hazardous waste, before stopping at the distribution booth to pick up the following complimentary items:
1. Six-gallon recycling container with handle — good for paper, cans, glass and bottles; it can fit underneath a sink or in a pantry.
2. A 14-gallon recycling container — good for larger recyclables, cardboard, cereal boxes, newspaper and magazines.
3. Countertop kitchen pail to help collect food waste and minimize odors before depositing the food waste into the organics container for service.
4. Reusable shopping bag made from plastic bottles.
Limit one of each per household, while supplies last. (City customer verification may be required.)
Direct questions to the Utilities Department, 805-925-0951 ext. 7270.
