A 78-year-old Santa Maria man has been named as the motorcyclist who died last week in a Santa Maria crash with an agricultural bus.
At 11:15 a.m. April 16, emergency crews responded to the scene at the northbound Highway 101 onramp near East Main Street and Nicholson Avenue, Lt. Daniel Rios of the Santa Maria Police Department said.
The motorcyclist, traveling west on Main Street, attempted a right turn onto the highway onramp against a red light and collided with the passenger side of the bus, which had a green signal.
The motorcyclist, Philip Wesley Leonard, 78, of Santa Maria, was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center, where he later died.
No injuries occurred to the driver or occupants of the bus, police said.
Alcohol and drugs are not suspected as factors in the crash.
Anyone with information or questions about the investigation can contact Officer Nick Barton of the Police Department’s Traffic Unit at 805.928.3781, extension 1358.
A memorial service for Leonard will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 908 Sierra Madre Ave., in Santa Maria. A visitation will begin at 10 a.m.
Burial will take place at the Santa Maria Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary, Crematory and Memory Gardens.
