Two exhibits highlighting the stories of immigrants in Santa Barbara County are now open for in-person viewing.

The Santa Barbara County Genealogical Society’s Santa Barbara African American exhibit is on display at the Goleta Library, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesdays-Saturdays through June at 500 N. Fairview Ave.

The Santa Barbara Italian Pioneers exhibit is open to visitors 1-4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays at Rancho La Patera/Stow House, 304 N. Los Carneros Road, Goleta.

The African American exhibit focuses on 19 individuals and their families who made significant contributions to the Santa Barbara community, and includes outstanding organizations, churches, businesses, military, artists, athletes, and famous visitors.

The display is a smaller-scaled version of the society’s virtual exhibit, featuring new information and artifacts on loan from exhibit participants. The Goleta Library asks visitors to wear a mask and be prepared to wait in line as there will be a limit on how many people can enter the library at one time.

The Italian Pioneers exhibit highlights Italian immigrant families and their descendants who have had a significant impact on the Santa Barbara region in business, agriculture, education and construction, and who have become a part of the civic, social and cultural fabric of the community.

The display began as two separate exhibits at the Santa Barbara County Genealogical Society presented in October 2019. The society is now partnering with the Goleta Valley Historical Society in sharing the exhibit with the community.
