Santa Barbara County officials on Sunday reported an additional 18 confirmed COVID-19 cases and no new virus-related fatalities.

The county has confirmed 34,223 coronavirus cases since the first positive case was reported in March 2020, according to the county Public Health Department.

To date, 450 people have died from COVID-19 in the county, the online status report released Sunday showed.

Eight COVID-19 patients were in local hospitals, down from 11 the previous day, according to the county.

Two of those patients were being treated in intensive-care units, a number that has remained unchanged from Friday.

Of Sunday’s new cases, six were in Santa Barbara, four in the Lompoc Valley, three each in Isla Vista and Santa Maria, and two in Orcutt.

No new cases were reported in the Goleta Valley, the Montecito-Summerland-Carpinteria area, the Santa Ynez Valley area or the Lompoc Federal Prison Complex, according to the county Public Health Department.

There were about 175 new positive COVID-19 cases reported in the past seven days across the county, for an average of about 25 daily cases. In the previous seven days, the county tallied about 157 new cases, which is an average of 22.4 cases per day.

Countywide, more than 140 people were considered still infectious or active cases, according to the Public Health Department.

More than 609,000 coronavirus tests have been administered in the county, according to Sunday’s daily status report.

The county’s seven-day rolling average test-positivity rate was 1.5 percent and the health equity metric was 1.9 percent, which will meet the criteria for California’s lowest level for COVID-19 rules.

The adjusted case rate was 3.6 cases per day per 100,000 people, which qualifies the county for the orange tier.

All 58 counties fall under California’s color-coded system and each region must meet the next tier’s criteria for two consecutive weeks to advance in the state’s reopening process, officially known as the Blueprint for a Safer Economy.

Santa Barbara County has been in the orange tier since April 20.
