Santa Barbara County on Monday reported just 43 new cases of COVID-19 since Friday, with the number of “active” cases hitting lows not seen since last summer.
Of the new cases, 19 were reported on Saturday, 13 on Sunday, and 11 on Monday, according to the county Public Health Department.
There were 99 active or still infectious cases in the county.
Two additional COVID-19-related deaths were reported on Monday, raising the county’s pandemic toll to 671 fatalities.
The people who died were both 70+ years of age with underlying health conditions. One lived in the city of Santa Maria and the other in the Lompoc Valley.
There have been seven COVID-19-related deaths reported in the county over the past two weeks.
COVID-19 hospitalizations numbers have remained relatively stable and low in recent weeks.
On Monday, there were 21 COVID-19-positive patients in local hospitals, with three of them being treated in intensive-care units.
Of the new cases reported over the last three days, 12 are in the Goleta Valley, 10 are in the Lompoc Valley, and eight are in the Santa Barbara area.
There are six in the Santa Maria Valley, five in the Montecito-Summerland-Carpinteria area, and one in the Santa Ynez Valley.
The geographic location was pending on one case.
