Santa Barbara County reported 89 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, and one additional death.
The number of people in the county hospitalized with the novel coronavirus declined to 42 from 45 the previous day, while patients being treated in intensive-care units remained at 15.
The person who died was a Santa Maria resident in the 50-to-69 age group with no underlying health conditions, according to the county Public Health Department.
The latest fatality increased the county’s overall COVID-19 death toll to 504.
Of the new cases reported Friday, 43 (48.3%) were in the Santa Maria Valley, 21 were in the Lompoc Valley and 11 were in the Santa Barbara area.
The Goleta Valley recorded nine cases, and the Santa Ynez Valley had two. Three cases were pending geographic locations.
Of the 42,408 cases reported to date, 40,398 have recovered, and 416 people are still considered infectious.
The county’s test-positivity rate as of Friday was 3.6%.
