Noozhawk’s ParentNooz Camp Guide is officially here and we made sure to make things easy when planning your child’s summer!

To give parents the tools to help make informed decisions about Summer Camps for their kids in Santa Barbara, Noozhawk has conducted a series of interviews with representatives of local programs for this year’s Summer Camp Guide.

In this interview, Noozhawk spoke with Bianca Deardorff, Director of Recreational Programs at Santa Barbara Soccer Club to learn more about the summer programs they are offering this year.

Question: What is the name of your camp or program?

Answer: Santa Barbara Soccer Club Summer Camp(s).

Q: What is the focus of your camp or program?

A: The Summer Camp Series is designed to benefit players of all ages and ability. Campers will improve ball control, footwork, creativity, and understanding of the game through interactive drills, scrimmages, and challenges. Our passionate coaching staff paired with the innovative and structured curriculum create the perfect environment for player development.

Q: How many years has the camp been running? Do you have any professional accreditations or certifications?

A: Santa Barbara Soccer Club is pleased to introduce our inaugural Summer Camp Series. Having served youth in our community for over 30 years, Santa Barbara Soccer Club has accredited and licensed coaches, and is a member of a variety of the top tier gaming circuits in the state/nation, including MLS Next, Development Players League, California Regional League, and Coast Soccer League.

Q: What goals do you have for kids participating in your camp or program?

A: Camp is designed for players to enhance their individual soccer skills with an age and developmentally appropriate curriculum. Camps will also emphasize the value of teamwork through group activities, small side games and scrimmages. The overall goal is to provide a fun environment where players can improve skills, learn new techniques, and develop their individual abilities to support continued recreation or competitive play.

Q: Describe a typical day for a child attending your camp or program.

A: Half Day Schedule:

  • 8:30-9:00am: Check-In and early arrivals
  • 9:00- 9:30am: Mobility, motor skills and running mechanics
  • 9:30 – 10:15am: Moves of the Day & Soccer Aerobics
  • 10:15- 10:30am: Snack Break (character lesson plan implemented)
  • 10:30- 10:45am: Demos by professional staff on Skill of the Day
  • 10:45- 11:30am: Dribbling activities & group games (Example- Dribbling 1v1’s & 2v2’s)
  • 11:30 – 12:00 pm: Lunch
  • 12:00- 12:15pm: Free Play games
  • 12:15- 12:50pm: Game of the day & Small-sided games (scrimmage).
  • 12:50- 1:00pm: Review & Check-out half day

Full Day Schedule:

  • 1:00-1:30pm: Ball manipulation/ juggling/ challenges
  • 1:30-2:00pm: Goals Galore (Shooting & Finishing)
  • 2:00-2:15pm: Snack Break
  • 2:15-2:50pm: Game of the day & Small-sided games (scrimmage).
  • 2:50- 3:00pm: Review & Check-out full day.

Q: What is the staff to child ratio? Do you require training or background checks for your employees?

A: Ratio of players to coaches is 10 to 1. All Coaches have undergone comprehensive background checks, completed SafeSport and concussion training, and are certified and accredited by US Youth Soccer Association.

Q: What is the best part, in your opinion, about your camp or program?

A: Our camps and other recreational offerings are part of Santa Barbara Soccer Club’s player pathway program, which allow children who are eager to grow their skills and opportunities in the sport to do so at our club. We are excited to offer players of all interests and abilities with a structured development program, led by experienced and accredited Coaches.

Q:  In what ways is your camp or program educational?

A: All Santa Barbara Soccer Club programs strive to impart the importance of team work, personal development and accountability, and foster play, community, charter, enrichment and opportunity through the sport of soccer.

Q: What is the age and price range of your camp? Do you offer any scholarships?

A: Ages: 5-12 (Junior Program), 7-12 (Club+ Program)

Rates:

9:00-1:00pm (half day) $200

9:00- 3:00pm (full day) $275

8:30-9:00am (early drop-off) FREE to all campers with Registration

5-Week Series Discount: $10 Off (each week for a total savings of $50)
