With the 2022 school year starting in just a week, Noozhawk has put together our annual ParentNooz Afterschool Activities Guide. Our guide takes the stress out of planning your child’s afterschool schedule by providing you with all the necessary information when deciding on which afterschool program is the best fit.
To help give parents more information about afterschool programs in Santa Barbara County, Noozhawk has conducted a series of interviews with representatives of local programs for this year’s Afterschool Activities Guide.
In this interview, Noozhawk spoke with Mia Bui, Consultant for Santa Barbara Trapeze Co., to learn more about their afterschool programs here in Santa Barbara.

Question: What is the name of your Afterschool Activity/Program?
Answer: Kids Master Class.
Q: What was the inspiration for creating your program?
A: The Master Class 8-week series is the perfect after school program for your kids. Flying trapeze builds confidence, strength, agility and teaches discipline and teamwork. SBTC creates an inclusive and supportive environment for all kids to thrive.
Q: What is the age range for children to take part in your afterschool activity or program?
A: 7-13 (Ask us about exceptions).
Q: Describe a typical day or schedule of your afterschool activity.
A: Duration: Once a week – same day and time.
Length: 2 hours a class.
Classes focus on the technical elements of trapeze and flyiing to the hands of a catcher. Class begins with a warmup specific to trapeze.
The 8 week series will close out with a fun performance where the kiddos can show their parents what they learned!
Q: What is the average program size or class size for your activity? Teacher to student ratio?
A: 10 students maximum. Minimum of 3 instructors per Master Class.
Q: What is the protocol for bringing on a new employee or teacher? How are employees vetted before joining your program?
A: All senior instructors have 10+ years of experience in coaching flying trapeze and working with children. All junior instructors go through a rigorous training process. Our instructors and employees have a mandatory and extensive background check, and are first aid/ CPR certified.
Q: In what ways is your program educational?
A: What you will learn?
-Foundational lingo, techniques, and skills
-Extensive curriculum of positions, tricks and flying
-How to learn and grow with a group of people – giving and receiving encouragement and learning from others who may be more advanced in the flying progression

Q: Describe what makes your afterschool program unique and worthwhile?
A: Our after school program is one of the most unique experiences across the globe. Its exciting, challenging and fun! Kids walk away feeling confident, adventurous, and excited to explore new things!
Q: How do you communicate with parents in case of an emergency?
A: Parents will be notified right away in case of an emergency. They will receive a call from the director of the rig.
Q: What is the date range and hours of your afterschool activity or program?
A: Our programs run year round. All kids master classes typically start at 3pm.

A: Prices vary- our 8 week master class series is $700.
