Community members are invited to participate in two Protect Yourself from Fraud presentations hosted by the Department of Financial Protection & Innovation at SBCC’s School of Extended Learning.
The programs will be 1-2 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 8 and 15 in the Wake Campus auditorium, 300 N. Turnpike Road, Santa Barbara.
The first presentation, Protect Yourself from Financial Fraud and Scams, will discuss trending scams affecting older adults like tech support scams, government and business imposter scams, and grandparent/relative scams.
Additional topics will cover methods scammers use such as phishing emails, text messages, and voicemail/phone scams.
The second program, Protect Yourself from Investment Fraud, will cover the different types of investment fraud older adults should be aware of, including annuity fraud, cryptocurrency fraud, and affinity fraud.
Additional topics include how technology and AI have made it easier for the scammers to scam seniors.
