A man was taken to the hospital Friday night after being stabbed on State Street in downtown Santa Barbara, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department.

Police officers and other emergency personnel responded at about 9 p.m. to State Street and Anapamu Street on a report of a stabbing, Sgt. Ethan Ragsdale told Noozhawk.

They found the victim, who was treated at the scene by Santa Barbara city firefighters.

He was taken by AMR ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

His name and details on his condition were not available, but Ragsdale said he was in stable condition.

The stabbing reportedly was preceded by some sort of altercation, Ragsdale said, but details were not available.

The person or people responsible for the attack reportedly fled on foot toward Chapala Street, Ragsdale said, and remained at large Friday night.

The attack does not appear to be gang-related, Ragsdale said, adding that investigators do not believe it was in response to other recent violent incidents in the city.
