The man who robbed the Bank of America on Coast Village Road on Wednesday afternoon was still at large Thursday evening, according to Santa Barbara Police Department Cmdr. Nathan Beltran.
Police responded to a report of a robbery at the bank at 1096 Coast Village Road shortly before 3 p.m.
Bank employees said that the man — described as a middle-age white male who was wearing a dark-colored baseball hat, a black medical-style face mask and a dark-colored jacket — entered the bank and “demanded money” before fleeing.
Beltran said the suspect “obtained an undisclosed amount of cash before leaving the bank.”
It was initially believed the man may have had a firearm, according to reports from bank employees.
Detectives have now discovered that “the object was made from a piece of metal configured to resemble a handgun,” Beltran said.

The suspect was last seen heading westbound on Coast Village Road while riding a dark-colored bicycle.
“At this time, there is no indication that this robbery is connected to any other incidents,” Beltran said.
The investigation into the robbery was ongoing as of Thursday evening.
