The Power of Objects: The Art of Ron Robertson, a benefit show for the Santa Barbara Arts Fund, will finish its six-week run with a closing reception, 5-7 p.m. Aug. 29 at La Cumbre Plaza, Ste. H124, 121 S. Hope Ave., Santa Barbara.
The exhibit features 50-plus works from Santa Barbara mixed-media assemblage master artist Ron Robertson. All gallery sales from The Power of Objects go directly to benefit future programming at the Arts Fund, thanks to a donation from the Robertson Family Trust.
Additionally, the pop-up gallery will be open noon-5 p.m. Thursdays-Sundays for those interested in selecting a work before the closing reception.
“First and foremost, I want to extend our gratitude to the Robertson Family Trust,” said Jamie Dufek, Arts Fund acting executive director. “Ron has been a long-time supporter of the Arts Fund. He served as a popular mentor who regularly opened up his studio to students through our Teen Arts Mentorship Program.
“The Arts Fund is thrilled that the Robertson Family Trust was interested in furthering Ron’s lasting impact on the Santa Barbara community with this generous donation.”
In addition to serving as a mentor, Robertson also served on the Arts Fund’s Board of Directors, Gallery Committee and Advisory Board.
“When the Robertson Family Trust initially reached out to me with this offer, I was absolutely bowled over,” Dufek said. “It was an honor to curate this show in collaboration with the family.”
All of the pieces on display are mixed-media works, about half of which have been sold so far. The gallery also offers a retrospective of Robertson’s life, including his time studying printmaking in Japan and working as a stylist for the Ford Motor Company.
“Whether you want to come by to invest in a master of mixed media assemblage, or simply take the time to immerse yourself in the life’s work of an incredible Santa Barbara artist with a unique — and often whimsical — point of view, all are welcome to come by before the exhibit closes,” Dufek said.
