Sofia Talvik

The Wooden Hall Concerts will present Swedish Americana folksinger Sofia Talvik, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at Alhecama Theatre, 914 Santa Barbara St.

Sofia is at the vanguard of Americana music. She has toured and seen more places in the U.S. than the average American.

Her latest album celebrates her love for the vast plains, big mountains and sandy coastlines, as well as the warm and quirky people she met on the road.

She’s played the big festivals like Lollapalooza and SxSW, but the intimate setting of a smaller stage is where her strength shines; she’s in it for the music, not the fame and fortune.

“A singer/songwriter who is able to evoke the essence of Laurel Canyon circa the ’60s.” writes Lee Zimmerman, comparing Talvik to giants like Joni Mitchell and Judy Collins.

“In many ways, Talvik seems destined to become their heir apparent, given that her songs are striking in an effervescent and incandescent sort of way,” Zimmerman said.

Reserved seats to see Talvik are $22 at www.sbama.org. Seats may also be available for $25 cash at the door. All proceeds go to the artists and the Trust for Historic Preservation for the use of the venue.
