The Architectural Foundation of Santa Barbara will present “TIMELY,” a collaborative exhibit of porcelain, mixed media, and photography by Joan Rosenberg-Dent and Caroline Kapp that runs June 1-Aug. 24 at the foundation, 229. E. Victoria St.

An opening reception will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 31. Rosenberg-Dent and Kapp will also present a series of panel discussions, the first of them at 2 p.m. June 8.
Rosenberg-Dent’s porcelain sculptures and Kapp’s experimental photographs and drawings reflect and correspond with each other in a variety of ways.
The artists first met by chance at the Channing Peake Gallery while picking up their work from a previous show. Arriving at the same time in the gallery, they observed their work hanging side by side and were struck by the strong visual resonances.
After exchanging emails, then studio visits, over time they began to shape the idea of a two-person, collaborative exhibit.
“We found conceptual and visual similarities in our past creative works, as well as in our current themes,” they said. “We were each independently exploring new work related to the concept of time: how time shapes our lives; how we shape the time in our lives; how time can leave visible marks on us and our surroundings.
“We asked the question: if our past work displays such an uncanny connection, what might future collaborations look like?”
“TIMELY” features a mix of past, present, and collaborative works that speak to the elusive qualities of time through a variety of perspectives and mediums.
Rosenberg-Dent and Kapp consider elements of space, rhythm, form, and how combining small components can create a larger whole, like architecture.
