The name of the woman killed by an alleged drunken driver going the wrong way on southbound Highway 101 early Sunday morning in Santa Maria has been released.
Alma Teresa Alcorta Del Lazaro. 53, of Santa Maria died in the crash, according to Raquel Zick of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Bureau.
Alcorta Del Lazaro was the passenger in Chevrolet Silverado that collided with the Mazda CX-9 going the wrong direction on Highway 101 between Betteravia Road and Santa Maria Way at approximately 5:20 a.m.
Firefighters had to extricate the truck’s driver, Cecilio L. Camacho, 63, of Santa Maria, from the vehicle.
Camacho, who had critical injuries, was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment.
California Highway Patrol officers arrested the Mazda’s driver, Kendra Cordova, 34, of Santa Maria.
She was booked in the Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol causing great bodily injury.
Cordova remained in the custody of the Northern Branch Jail on Monday morning with bail set at $100,000.
This was the third fatal crash in the North County in less than 24 hours after a motorcyclist died Saturday after driving off Jalama Road and another driver died in a crash west of Santa Maria late Saturday night.
Santa Barbara County saw a fourth fatal crash Sunday night in the Carpinteria area where a motorcyclist died after driving down an embankment and crashing into a fence.
