Authorities on Sunday released the name of the man who was fatally shot the previous night outside an Orcutt market.

The victim was 19-year-old Manuel Reyes Rios of Santa Maria, according to Santa Barbara County sheriff’s Lt. Jarrett Morris.

“Further investigation is being conducted to determine his cause and manner of death,” he said.

Morris said sheriff’s deputies and other emergency personnel were dispatched shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday to the parking lot at Melody Mini Market, at 130 E. Foster Road, just east of Highway 135/Orcutt Expressway.

They found Rios dead, he said.

Morris previously told Noozhawk that an off-duty Santa Maria police officer was involved in the incident, but he did not provide details.

The officer’s name has not been released, and the Sheriff’s Department has not said what it believes may have led to the shooting.

No additional suspects were being sought at the time, Morris added.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division by calling 805.681.4150.
