Furry companions now have a new local place to get their checkups.
Bonnie Mara Animal Hospital, located at 4860 Calle Real in Santa Barbara, officially opened on Monday.
The pet hospital offers services ranging from dental cleanings and surgeries to general checkups, X-rays and more. It is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday.
The independent animal hospital is owned by Dr. Laura Putnam, who previously worked at VCA Carpinteria Veterinary Hospital.
Putnam said she decided to change locations to be closer to home, and the size of the new building allowed her to build the hospital she always wanted. She said her goal is to create an area where pets feel comfortable and safe.
“I’m really building it so that we can take our time with our patients and we’re not rushing them through,” Putnam said.
The new 5,000-square-foot clinic is designed with pets’ comfort in mind. The reception area is split between dogs and cats to avoid stressing out pets who may not be used to other animals.
“I’ve been a vet for long enough where I see so many dogs that come to the vet, and they tremble, and they’re scared, and they freak out,” she said. “I wanted it to be big enough and spacious enough where dogs could have plenty of time with their people.”
Cats in particular do not enjoy the vet and are easily stressed by the experience, she said. Many do not like seeing unfamiliar dogs, even if they are used to living with them.
Holding areas for cats are designed to keep them comfortable during their stay, with cages that keep them warm and secure and reduce noise. The staff can also adjust the light in the cages as needed.
The hospital also offers private exam rooms, including one dedicated to cats with places for them to climb.
The hospital is now accepting new patients. Residents can make appointments online or over the phone.
Kellogg Square Changes Owners
Kellogg Square on Hollister Avenue in Goleta has been sold for $11.3 million.
The shopping center is home to several retail shops and businesses, including a liquor store, floral shop, water store, a gym and more.
The sale was facilitated by Collier’s, a global real estate firm. The company said the sale of the shopping center will support Old Town Goleta as the community continues to add new housing to the area.
“Kellogg Square represents a highly desirable neighborhood retail investment in one of Southern California’s most sought-after coastal markets,” said Miles Waters, vice president at Colliers.
“The combination of a strategic location, an established tenant base, and the enduring strength of the Santa Barbara market made this a compelling opportunity for investors.”
Raymond Music Moves On
Local business Raymond Music in Goleta has played its last tune — for now.
Raymond Music, at 7320 Hollister Ave., Suite 6, announced on Instagram that it is now closed as the owner prepares to relocate to Las Vegas. The store officially closed on Aug. 28, according to the company website.
The family-owned shop provided instrument repairs, rentals, lessons and sales.
Owner Bryce Raymond said he may open another music shop in the future.
“Thanks to everyone who came to support the shop over the years and the friends I made along the way,” Raymond said in his post. “I’ll keep the Facebook and Instagram updated with what I’m doing, so if you want to see what’s going on and when I get back up and running, stay tuned!”
EōS Goleta Closes Its Doors
EōS Fitness plans to close its Goleta location at 6144 Calle Real on Oct. 1.
The location was originally a Gold’s Gym. EōS purchased Gold’s 23 Southern California locations in October 2025. The gym has two other locations, including one on Upper State Street and another in downtown Santa Barbara.
The company is still planning to open a 24/7 location in 2027 at 820 State St., at the corner of State and East Canon Perdido streets.
