Goleta the Good Land is getting even better.
Miner’s Ace Hardware plans to move into the recently closed Orchard Supply Hardware building in the Fairview Shopping Center at 125. N. Fairview Ave.
Miner’s Ace Hardware started in Grover City (now known as Grover Beach) in 1956. At the time, the hardware store was run by the two Miner brothers Lee and Glenn. Their first employee was Wally Lewis, who still works at the original store.
In 1972 Miner’s joined Ace Hardware, a buying co-op owned entirely by independent dealers. In 1982 Mike Miner, Lee’s oldest son, was named CEO of the company.
“It is going to be wonderful for the community to have a family-owned business in this location,” said Serena Hollingsworth, the former Goleta OSH Manager, who has joined the Miner’s Goleta team.
“I am beyond excited to be a part of what Miner’s has to offer, which goes far beyond the other places I have worked when it comes to helpfulness. It is like being helpful is part of Miner’s DNA.”
Paul Filice, president of Miner’s Ace Hardware, said other former OSH employees will join the company.
“One of the best parts about growing is adding people to the Miner’s family,” he said.
Miner’s has additional stores in Arroyo Grande, Morro Bay, Los Osos, Atascadero, Nipomo, San Luis Obispo and Santa Paula.
“We were humbled and encouraged to see so many customers driving so far just to shop Miner’s,” Filice said. “The opportunity to open a hardware store in Goleta speaks to Miner’s brand of helpful and convenient saving drive time and traffic for their loyal customer base.”
Miner’s is holding a hiring fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 22 at the Goleta site, which is expected to open for business in late summer.
New Sandwich Shop
Ike’s Love & Sandwiches has opened a new Santa Barbara location on the corner of State and Mission streets.
The restaurant is known for its array of location-specific sandwiches, and the Santa Barbara location is no exception.
The menu includes more than 500 meat, vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free sandwiches. The Santa Barbara store, 1936 State St., offers sandwiches such as the “Counting Blue Cars” with fried chicken, Ike’s Neon Orange Delicious Sauce and pepper jack cheese, as well as a vegetarian option, “Romeo’s Juliet” made with spinach, Ike’s Neon Orange Delicious Sauce, lettuce, tomato and pepper jack.
The restaurant will hold a grand opening on Monday and the first 100 guests will receive a free sandwich and a photo with Ike Shehadeh, the company founder and CEO. All day long, sandwiches will be available for just $3 each.
“I grew up loving Santa Barbara and dreaming of living here,” Shehadeh said in a statement. “Opening this shop is one of the most fulfilling feelings that I can experience. Thank you for allowing this to become a reality.”
Funk Zone Wine Tasting Room
Doug Margerum and the Margerum Wine Company are opening a new tasting room at the Hotel Californian on Lower State Street. The Margerum Wine Company tasting room offers distinctive flights and wines by the glass from their premium wines produced at their Buellton winery.
Rani Mclean, direct-to-consumer manager, will oversee the tasting room at 19 E. Mason St., which has an outdoor patio.
The tasting room will have a changing menu featuring rare bottlings and excellent older vintages of Margerum Wines, and people can also book private winemaker tastings with Doug Margerum.
The Margerum Wine Company tasting room is open daily from 11 p.m. to 7 p.m. and a grand opening for the public is planned for June.
Jeff Bridges Lists House For Sale
Actor Jeff Bridges’ Montecito home is on the market for $7,995,000, according to the listing by Sally Hanseth, a Coldwell Banker Global Luxury Property Specialist affiliated with the Montecito office of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage.
The three-bedroom, two-bathroom and one-partial-bathroom main home, 1690 San Leandro Lane, was originally built in 1919, but was renovated in 2016.
“Offering peaceful paths through mature oak groves, redwoods, a citrus orchard and butterfly garden with a pond, make this rare property unforgettable,” Hanseth said.
The single-story Spanish revival main house, on about 4 acres, has vaulted beamed ceilings, five fireplaces and a newly constructed kitchen with chef-grade appliances, custom cabinets and a large island.
The grounds offer a private well; pool and spa; large pool house with a family room, office, bathroom and sauna; detached one-bedroom guesthouse, and a large barn/carriage house with an office, five-bonus rooms and workshop. Additional horse facilities include a five-stall barn, corral and tack room, according to a news release.
Bridges said his home was severely damaged by the Jan. 9, 2018 debris flows, and described the helicopter rescue of himself and his family in a video by the California Office of Emergency Services.
