One of three suspects arrested and charged in connection with the February shooting of a 29-year-old Santa Barbara man pleaded not guilty to murder and attempted murder last week.

Jorge Angel Hurtado of Ventura, 19, is accused in the shooting death of Luis Gerardo Terrazas which occurred at Bohnett Park on the city’s Westside, according to authorities.

Hurtado pleaded not guilty to criminal charges and also denied several enhancements. Those included using a firearm in a specified felony; being a person principal in commission of offense; serious felony benefit of a street gang; violent felony murder/voluntary manslaughter; and violent felony attempted murder.

He is next set to be back before the court for a preliminary hearing setting on Monday.

He remained in police custody at the Santa Barbara Mail Jail on a $3.1 million bail as of Friday morning.

Emergency crews on Feb. 20 responded to Bohnett Park, a park on Santa Barbara’s San Pascual Street, at around 1:31 a.m. and found a man later identified as Terrazas with a gunshot wound, per the Santa Barbara Police Department.

He was transported to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Hurtado, 18-year-old Jimmy Alexander Mora Jr. of Ventura and a juvenile whose name and age were not released were separately arrested in early June in connection with Terrazas’ murder.

Hurtado and others are “alleged to have shot and killed Luis Terrazas in a gang-related murder,” said Kevin Weichbrod, senior deputy district attorney.

The unnamed juvenile and Mora Jr. are being tried in juvenile court because they were under the age of 18 in February, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

At the time of Terrazas’ murder, he was out on bail and facing charges of felony assault related to the August 2025 stabbing death of Anthony Michael Bisquera Hartley, 30.

Hartley, who investigators said was armed with a knife, was fatally stabbed in downtown Santa Barbara after a fight broke out during Santa Barbara’s Old Spanish Days Fiesta.

Santa Barbara Police are investigating another shooting that occurred on San Pascual Street near the park on Wednesday. A man was injured in the incident, but no other details were available as of Friday.
