Cate’s Phebe Hancock led a balanced effort with five goals, two assists and a draw as the Rams defeated Channel League rival Dos Pueblos at home 16-10 Tuesday.
Freshman Maia Holmes scored the first goal of the game for Cate, and within the first 10 minutes the team was ahead 4-1 on the way to a 10-5 halftime lead.
Holmes finished with three goals, Ellie Tunnell scored four goals and added an assist and five draws, and Lucy Guilbert-Neal had two goals. Riley Pan had four draws and goalie Liz Sutter had nine saves.
Lauren Elliott led Dos Pueblos with five goals and seven draw controls. Hannah Martin added three goals and Avery Ball two goals.
“I was proud of the Cate team for staying composed and setting the tempo in the second half to secure the win,” Cate coach Renee Mack said.
“This team effort began in the back, led by Liz Sutter in net. Her confidence and quick stick were outstanding, earning her the team ball. Riley Pan also played well. She was a utility player — taking the draw, playing attack and drawing doubles in the midfield.
The Rams, 6-3 overall and 6-1 in league play, is at home again Thursday against San Marcos, which is a game behind in league play at 5-2, with a 3:30 p.m. start.
The Chargers is 6-6 overall and 4-2 in league, and play at Thacher on Thursday.
