Anne Pazier, founder of Santa Barbara Gift Baskets in Old Town Goleta, sees herself as a producer. “A client gives me the script — maybe it’s a condolence, a celebration or a heartfelt thank you — and then I bring together the talent,” she says. “Each artisan I work with pours passion into their product. I’m just the one curating the scene.”

When you step inside Santa Barbara Gift Baskets, it feels like visiting a beloved neighbor who happens to have the most beautiful retail shop.

Sunlight filters through the windows of the Old Town Goleta storefront, highlighting shelves lined with local wines, handmade chocolates, artisanal snacks and handcrafted treasures — each one carefully chosen, each with a story.

At the center of it all is Anne Paizer, a woman whose kindness, authenticity and deep connection to her community have shaped every corner of the business she’s built over nearly two decades.

Pazier’s path to entrepreneurship was hardly linear — but, in hindsight, it feels inevitable.

“I was born to be my own boss,” she said, her eyes lighting up.

The daughter of entrepreneurial parents, Pazier spent her childhood immersed in the world of small business, whether watching her folks build a thriving old-time photography studio or visiting her grandmother’s beloved Belgian fudge shop in downtown Santa Barbara.

Pazier’s family history is one of creativity, resilience and storytelling. Her grandfather, who once ran away with the circus, embodied the spirit of a showman and a dreamer.

That same spirit would later inspire Pazier to pursue film school, where she developed a love for producing — bringing people and elements together to create something meaningful.

Corporate life came next. With a background in sales and marketing at a Fortune 500 company, she honed skills that would later become invaluable.

But when life brought her back to Santa Barbara, a chance encounter — and love story — sparked a new chapter.

“I don’t want mass-produced filler. I want baskets filled with heart.” Anne Pazier

After meeting her future husband, a local firefighter, Pazier traded film sets for family life and soon launched what would become Santa Barbara Gift Baskets.

What began with assembling gifts for entertainment clients quickly blossomed into a business. Pazier operated from her garage while raising her children and navigating life’s complexities — including grief, loss and resilience following the loss of her daughter, Brooke.

Throughout it all, Pazier’s inherent warmth and dedication to service remained steadfast.

“Gifting became a way to channel that love and care for others,” she reflected. “It’s about making people feel seen and valued.”

That personal philosophy is woven into every basket Pazier creates.

From corporate gifts to hospital comfort baskets, from Fiesta-inspired happy hour boxes to custom welcome gifts for out-of-town guests, she approaches each order as a unique opportunity to tell a story.

“I see myself as a producer,” Pazier explained. “A client gives me the script — maybe it’s a condolence, a celebration, or a heartfelt thank you — and then I bring together the talent.

“Each artisan I work with pours passion into their product. I’m just the one curating the scene.”

Pazier is deliberate about showcasing their talents.

“I don’t want mass-produced filler,” she said. “I want baskets filled with heart.”

That commitment extends to her clients as well. Pazier takes time to understand each client’s goals and values — whether she’s crafting an onboarding gift for a tech company or a sympathy basket for a grieving friend.

“It’s about how the recipient will feel,” she said. “We remember moments through how we feel.”

Pazier also values sustainability — reducing waste through reusable containers, compostable packaging and intentional product choices.

“I want our gifts to leave a positive footprint — on the recipient and the planet,” she said.

As Santa Barbara Gift Baskets approaches its 20th anniversary, Pazier remains focused on both growth and gratitude.

She dreams of adding more regular corporate partners and finding new ways to support local artisans.

And while her Goleta shop thrives at 230 Magnolia Ave., she imagines one day expanding to downtown Santa Barbara or perhaps even fulfilling a lifelong dream of owning a gift boutique in the historic Big Yellow House in Summerland.

For now, Pazier finds deep fulfillment in the relationships her business fosters.

“It’s not about the baskets — it’s about connection,” she said. “It’s about honoring life’s moments with intention and kindness.”

That, ultimately, is the heart of Pazier’s story — a woman who has turned personal challenges, creative passion and love for her community into a thriving business that touches thousands of lives.

And if you ask anyone who knows her, they’ll tell you, Pazier isn’t just a gifted business owner. She is a giver of joy, a weaver of community, and a reminder that the most meaningful gifts are those wrapped in love.
